Tatarstan, Russia based Zelenodolsk Shipyard named after A.Gorky on May 8, 2014 launched the second A217-1 series passenger vessel, designed by St. Petersburg headquartered Agat Design Bureau. The vessel was ordered for Alfa-Leasing LLC., the shipbuilding company said.
The Project A217-1 vessels will be able to transport 176 passengers on Russia's inland waterways.
Ship's general dimensions: length overall - 27.4 m, breadth overall - 5.60 m, amidships depth - 3,00 m, full load draft - 1,36 m, operational speed - about 25 km / h, maximum cruising range - 400 km.
The serial passenger boat is the result of cooperation of the shipbuilder and St. Petersburg based engineering bureau. Zelenodolsk Shipyard has built Agat Design Bureau designed high-speed passenger hovercrafts (project A45, one operates on the Lena and four boats on the Yenisei River) and two A145-series vessels (operate in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District).
Unlike the above mentioned innovative vessels (aircraft technology, water-jets, ACV principle) boats of project A217-1 are more traditional and are not high-speed, using common propulsion units. However, the project has its own characteristics: the hull and screws have ice class enabling the MV to sail in a 30-cm-thick slob ice or cut path in a 20-cm-thick solid ice.
OJSC Zelenodolsk Shipbuilding Plant named after A.Gorky (Zelenodolsk Shipyard, based in the Republic of Tatarstan) specializes in the construction of warships and passenger high-speed vessels.
