HHLA terminal O’Swaldkai handles drop-forging hammer weighing 167 tonnes

The drop-forging hammer weighing 167 tonnes arrived in Hamburg on a barge from Lovosice (CZ), where it was unloaded using the HHLA floating crane and temporarily stored by Unikai Lagerei- und Speditionsgesellschaft. The hammer, made to forge machine components, is destined for the American market. It is due to be rolled on to the shipping company ACL’s “Atlantic Conveyor” on 14 May using a special heavy-duty trailer, HHLA said in its press release.

The HHLA subsidiary Unikai is specialised in the handling of RoRo ships, which increasingly transport heavy goods in addition to a wide range of vehicles. For producers of heavy goods and project cargo, Hamburg is conveniently located on the major routes for north-south and west-east traffic. With its wide range of global liner services and its good connections to the hinterland for machine and plant manufacturers, the Port of Hamburg is an important hub for handling global sea freight.
