Hambantota port second phase will speed up development of South

The Hambantota sea port project construction will greatly accelerate economic development in Sri Lanka's Southern Province, Hambatota Sea Port Project Manager Liu Hong Shen said. Shen was addressing an awards ceremony at Kirala Kele Hotel at Ambalantota where the best performers in the phase two of the Hambantota sea port project for the first quarter of 2014 were awarded prizes, SLPA said in its press release.

He said in accordance with government planning, Hambantota will be built as a city as important as Colombo. At present the Mattala Airport and Suriyawewa cricket grounds have gained international reputation. The Hambantota sea port project will bring huge economic and social benefits to Sri Lanka after these projects are completed. Hambantota will be an active economic zone which would be beneficial to improving peoples' livelihood. The second phase of the seaport is now in progress.

The Project Manager said that the success of these achievements depend on the efforts of all including those who received awards today.
The Project Manager extended his gratitude to those preparing breakfast for the Chinese staff from 3.00 a.m. drivers who continue unloading materials even after duty hours, and Chinese engineers who work well past mid night, which demonstrated their enthusiasm towards the project.
