Seaport of Odessa welcomes 9,400-TEU boxship (photo)
Odessa Commercial Sea Port was the first Ukrainian port to welcome a 9,400-TEU boxship, Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority says in its press release.
On August 14, CMA CGM Danube (length – 300 m, breadth – 48.2 m) moored at berths No 42 and No 43 of Odessa Commercial Sea Port (stevedoring company Brooklyn-Kiev Port LLC). The ship delivered 1,027 containers with 1,307 containers to be taken aboard.
On June 30, 2014, boxship CMA CGM Danube (9,400 TEU class) left China for her maiden voyage under bareboat charter for CIMC. The vessel is the first in the series of 28 boxships with the capacity of 9,400 TEUs being built for the French shipping line by DSIC (Dalian, China). The series will be delivered to the customer by the third quarter of 2016.
The boxship is intended for operation in the Black Sea. The ship is designed to serve the Black Sea through the Strait of the Bosphorous. The service that the ship is to operate, the Bosphorus Express (BEX), calls at: Dalian, Tianjin, Kwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Izmit, Istambul Ambarli, Constanza, Odessa, Ilyichevsk, Port Said, Port Kelang and Singapore, before returning to Dalian.
