Ten-month cargo throughput of Ukraine's seaports grows 6.5% to more than 115 million tonnes
Cargo volumes handled at the seaports of Ukraine in January-October 2014 increased by 6.5% as compared to the same period a year earlier, to 115,790,000 tonnes, the country's seaports authority said.
Overall, during the ten-month period public port operators loaded / unloaded 39,758,000 tonnes of different cargoes, or 34.3% of the total throughput, while private operators handled 76,032,000 tonnes (65.7%), including 39,446,000 tonnes transshipped through the piers of seaports authority.
Of the ten-month volume 84,232,000 tonnes were exports (an increase of 14.4% as compared to Jan-Oct., 2013) and 12,335,000 tonnes – imports (down 17.1%). The volume of transit goods fell 6.1% and totalled 17,223,000 tonnes, while the volume of short sea traffic rose 5% to 2 million tonnes, the report said.
Container throughput at the country's seaports totaled 558,157 TEUs, a 13.9% decline from the ten-month period of 2013.
