NTB and EUROGATE Hamburg recognised for best port productivity in Europe

The conference took place from 19 to 20 November in London and was attended by container shipping and logistics professionals. NTB North Sea Terminal (Bremerhaven, Germany) took an impressive second place in the JOC Group’s overall port productivity ranking, even coming first in the “Ships over 8,000 TEU” category. NTB is a joint venture between EUROGATE and APM Terminals. Third place was awarded to EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany). This summer in Shanghai EUROGATE Hamburg already received the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Award (AFSCA) as “Best Container Terminal Europe 2014”, EUROGATE said in its press release.

The ranking of Europe’s best terminals is based on the productivity data of the JOC Group. The world’s leading carriers had to provide the following information: ship’s name, terminal name, city and country of the port location, efficiency of ships’ arrival and departure from berth and total moves per hour. In the first half of 2014, NTB North Sea Terminals achieved productivity of 97 and EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg productivity of 89.

Jan Gelderland, Managing Director of the NTB container terminal: “We are delighted at winning this award and above all have our staff to thank that we find ourselves among the first three Top Terminals in Europe. At the last general meeting we expressed our personal thanks to the entire workforce. Ships are continuing to grow in size and we must adapt to the changing situation. A special target programme for our employees optimally prepares them to meet the challenges brought about by these developments and consequently enables us to continuously improve our performance. In addition, we have invested millions in new equipment over the past two years, including 73 new straddle carriers. Our close and very good cooperation with our key account customer MAERSK Line is also of prime importance, and generates a win-win situation for both sides.”

Peter Zielinski, Managing Director of EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg: “I am extremely delighted to have the honour of accepting this second award this year on behalf of EUROGATE Hamburg. It confirms the constant excellent quality of handling services at our terminal. These are currently supported by 40 colleagues from the EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our committed colleagues, as well as our loyal customers and, of course, the JOC Group for this award. It will serve as an incentive to strive for even better performance across the Group in the future.”
Last year, EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg also invested over ten million euros in new equipment and machinery to enable it to keep pace with industry developments.
