Port Murmansk will become the major port hub for Russia to develop its continental shelf and shipping on the Northern Sea Route, IAA PortNews journalist cites RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov as saying at the joint meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot).
According to him, the Kara Gates is a formal entrance to the Northern Sea Route but “a real hub to service transit cargo flows and oil & gas industry on the Barents Sea shelf and the entire Arctic Ocean will be created in Murmansk,” the Minister said.
