Throughput of Port Vanino OJSC up 2% to 7.2 mln t in 2014

In January-December 2014, Port Vanino OJSC handled 7.2 mln t of cargo (+2%, year-on-year), the Company’s press center says.

Transshipment of export cargo climbed by 5% to 5.2 mln t. Transshipment of export coal, which makes the core of exports, increased by over 13% to 4.4 mln t. Besides, the Company exported 450,000 t of timber and 390,000 t of ferrous metal.

Transshipment of coastal trade cargo (including that carried by ferries for the Sakhalin region) totaled 1.1 mln t. 

In the reported period, Port Vanino handled 849 vessels including 502 ferries, and 81,000 rail cars.

“The port’s work in 2014 was arranges so that the volumes if incoming cargo corresponded to the outgoing volumes. In winter, the most challenging period, Port Vanino OJSC signed agreements with the shippers on measures preventing coal congelation which had a positive impact on wagons unloading rates”, said Igor Prishchepov, Director General of the Company.
