Rail operator DistriRail is adding the Cobelfret terminal in the Botlek to its rail shuttle between Rotterdam and Duisburg. The terminal handles ferry services (container/roro) to the UK and Portugal, the company said in its press release.
From next week the terminal will be served six times a week. This means that the containers no longer need to be delivered via the Rail Service Center, thereby reducing costs and carbon emissions.
The expansion is in line with the concept of DistriRail to bundle large flows between Rotterdam and Duisburg and, from there, to distribute them further to and from the European hinterland.
