Lithuania expects EC support under “Rail Baltica” project
Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Rimantas Sinkevičius is meeting Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport, in Brussels today, the Ministry’s press center says. During the meeting, the parties are expected to discuss the issues of the transport sector important to Lithuania, with particular attention given to the progress and financing of the project “Rail Baltica”.
“Rail Baltica has a high importance in Lithuania and other Baltic States, all reaching for a better connection to the Single European Transport Area. In order for this project of international importance to be implemented successfully, the amount of required financing is huge, with the largest part to be funded from the European Union funds. In that regard, we expect the Commissioner to support and approve the project” said Rimantas Sinkevičius, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
The first CEF Call for proposals to be submitted to the European Commission closes 26thFebruary, 2015. The Joint Venture established among Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, will apply for a total of about EUR 620 million of co-funding under the CEF cohesion envelope.
Lithuania for the implementation of the transport sector projects intends to ask for around EUR 165 million of co-funding.
