TSNII SET to supply electric propulsion systems for two tugs laid down at OJSC “Yaroslavsky shipyard” for Navy
TSNII SET (KSRC affiliate) will supply electric propulsion systems for two tugs laid down at OJSC “Yaroslavsky shipyard” for Navy, the company said in its press release.
The capacity of electric propulsion plant/electric propulsion system will reach 5.4 MW (two 2.7 MW propellers). The necessity to enhance ship dynamic performance for better positioning and maneuvering that is of paramount importance for towing operations dictated the selection of this system to be installed onboard the tug. Moreover, this system will enable the power takeoff for certain primary electric power sources (generators) to minimize fuel consumption and optimize power distribution under different operating modes. Eventually it will result in higher tug efficiency and extended service life of propulsion system.
Another advantage of this system is the possibility to use the same main diesel-generators for different purposes, for instance: to supply the electric propulsion motors under running mode and high-powered drives of thrusters, cargo lift mechanisms and winch arrangements, fire pumps under maneuvering and harbour modes.
As of today TSNII SET boasts considerable experience in development of electric propulsion systems for home-produced tugs: these systems were developed by the KSRC affiliate for those of Projects 22030 and 745 series.
