50% of works under Phase I of Yamal LNG project has been accomplished at the construction site of Yamal LNG plant, Director General of JSC Yamal LNG Yevgeny Kot said yesterday, April 7, in Salekhard at the meeting dedicated to the project implementation.
Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of an LNG plant and port Sabetta. The plant’s annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per annum will be based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field. The LNG plant will be built in 3 phases which will be put in operation at the end of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
8,500 people work in Sabetta today. Major production facilities are under construction. The airport is in operation with regular flights launched from February 2015.
“As for the seaport – there are 4 operating berths there with round-the-year operation for the second year. 2.06 mln t of cargo was delivered last year with 3 mln t of cargo planned for this year. We have commenced the construction of the port’s second phase – terminals for shipment of liquefied natural gas and condensate. Our product will be in demand for 20 years. 96% of fuel has been sold under long-term contracts,” Yevgeny Kot said.
The meeting was based on the presentation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment under Yamal LNG project carried out in compliance with the international standards, which is essential for projects involving international companies.
JSC Yamal LNG is currently owned by NOVATEK (Russia), TOTAL (France) and CNPC (China).
According to the representatives of JSC Yamal LNG, international approach requires permanent monitoring and introduction of amendments. Besides, there are additional requirements on protection of environment, health and safety of the personnel and population.
The meeting in Salekhard was attended by Yamal reindeer herders, residents of the Yamal district, representatives of Russian scientific institutions and WWF, Greenpeace, Russian Birds Conservation Union and other non-governmental organizations.
