Admiral Makarov University celebrates 20-year anniversary of its Training Center (photo)

Ceremonial meeting dedicated to 20-year anniversary of the Makarov Training Center (Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping) was held in Saint-Petersburg within the framework the Russian Simulation Forum on April 9, 2015, IAA PortNews journalist reports. 

Sergei Baryshnikov, Rector of the University, said: “Makarov Training Center is one of the leading structural subdivisions of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping”.  

He told about the new structure of education management at Admiral Makarov University: “There are four institutes within the University: Maritime Academy; Water Transport Institute, Institute of International Transport Management and Institute of Continuing Professional Education”.

Makarov Training Center is an integral part of the Institute of Continuing Professional Education. 

According to the Rector, major objectives of Makarov Training Center are the following: conventional training of cadets and students, professional development and requalification of maritime industry specialists with different categories, scientific research, evaluation of designs involving state-of-the-art simulation and information technologies.

Vitaly Klyuev, Russian candidate for the post of IMO Secretary-General, Deputy Director of the Department of State policy for Maritime and River Transport under RF Ministry of Transport, who took part in the Forum, congratulated Makarov Training Center and expressed his appreciation of the Center’s staff for its work in training of seafarers.

“Maritime simulation center of Makarov University is an indisputable leader in simulation training in Russia. It is a brand name known not only in our country but in the world as well. It is pleasant to listen to positive comments on the Center’s work when staying abroad. As for our occasional criticism, it is our work. So, good luck and ‘steady as you go!’”, Vitaly Klyuev said.

Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy Training Centre suggests professional educational courses for students and cadets of the University, crews of seacrafts, wide range of maritime and oil&gas industry specialists of Russia, CIS and foreign countries.

As of today, Makarov Training Center numbers over 40 types of simulators at its two branches in Saint-Petersburg as well as in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.

In 2014, Makarov Training Center trained 12,952 persons including 2,824 cadets and students of Makarov University.

Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University.
