Russian fishing fleet reduced over 3 times from 1991 to 2,196 in 2015
As of 2015, Russian fishing fleet numbers 2,196 vessels, down over 3 times from 7,000 vessels in 1991, Vladimir Kashin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, said yesterday at the meeting of the Federal Fishery Agency’s Board.
In 2014, the number of vessels reduced by 80 units. Fishing fleet accounts for 90% of total aquatic bioresources catch with 75% of production facilities concentrated onboard the fishing vessels.
Vladimir Kashin told that 1,736 units (91.9% of vessels) have the age exceeding standard service life. Russian fishing fleet numbers 1,654 vessels with the age exceeding 20 y.o., 114 vessels – from 16 y.o. to 20 y.o., 95 vessels – from 11 y.o. to 15 y.o., 21 vessel – from 6 y.o. to 10 y.o., only 20 vessels younger than 5 y.o..
As of today, Russia requires 180 large and average size vessels and over 220 small-size vessels with total value of over RUB 170 bln.
