CSL delivers the Buoy Tender Vessel to Directorate General of L ight Houses and Light Ships, Ahead of time
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister for Shipping , Road Transport and Highways to dedicate the ship to the nation , today CSL, delivered the vessel ‘Indira Point’ to Director ate General Of Light Houses and Light Ships on 09 April 2015, 2 months ahead of the contract ual delivery schedule.
The event was witnessed by Cmde K Subramaniam, C&MD, CS L, Capt A M Surej, Director General, Directorate of Light Houses and Light Ships, Shri Barun Mitra, Joint Secretary (Shipping), Shri A K Gupta, C&MD, SCI, Shri Paul Antony, Chairman, CPT, other dignitaries, officials and workmen of CSL.
This is a specialized multi-purpose ship which will be used for transportation and placement of Buoys in position at deep seas/ recover ing and maintenance of buoys/ towing and mooring of light vessels/ distress management/ transp ortation of equipment and materials in containers, for repair of light houses in remote is lands. The vessel is Rolls Royce Marine UT 755 S design and is being built under the classification requirements of Indian Register of Shipping. The contract for the construction of ship was signed in August 2012 and the contractual delivery date is 10 June 2015.
Cochin Shipyard has charted out a business plan which includes building of High tech ships like LNG Carriers, Dredgers, Passenger Vessels and high end defence ships. The yard is contemplating international collaborations for achieving technical competence in these areas. Presently, the yard has orders for 9 Fast Patrol Vessels and one Aircraft Carrier, apart from the Buoy Tender Vessel. In the year 2013-14, the yard continued to post excellent results with a net profit of Rs 194 Crores and a turnover of Rs 1637 Crores.
