The Japan flagged training ship RV Kaiyo Maru of Niigata Fisheries High School with 10 cadets and 18 crew members on board arrived today, 14 May 2015, at Marine Terminal of Vladivostok on her three-day visit, the PortNews regional correspondent reports from the scene. The ship marks the twentieth arrival at Vladivostok since 1996.
The cadets will participate in training sailings. The cadets teacher said that in Japan the industry faces the shortage of marine personnel, due to insufficient prestige of maritime occupations and to multi-phased long process of professional education and career growth coupled with low wages of seafarers in Japan.
The visit was organized by the Adm. G.I. Nevelskoy Maritime State University. On May 17 the RV Kaiyo Maru will depart from the port of Vladivostok.
