MEPC session set to adopt environmental provisions of Polar Code
IMO Secretary-General Sekimizu has opened the 68th session of IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), which is set to adopt the environmental provisions of the Polar Code. The Committee is chaired by Mr Arsenio Dominguez (Panama) and will run from 11 to 15 May, the IMO news release said.
Other agenda items include: implementation of the ballast water management convention and energy-efficiency requirements and revisions to air pollution guidance and requirements.

The IMO's primary purpose is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping and its remit today includes safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping.
