Hapag-Lloyd launches new service between Gothenburg and Germany

A new container service for Swedish imports and exports has commenced between Gothenburg and Germany. The first ship is expected to call at Gothenburg on June 9, the company said in its press release.

The German container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd is launching its second service in Gothenburg. Hapag-Lloyd is one of the world's largest liner shipping companies and its fleet covers an exceptionally large number of destinations worldwide.

"It is extremely positive for Swedish industry that Hapag-Lloyd is expanding its traffic to Gothenburg. The new service will further reinforce our wide range of liner services and our role as the largest freight hub in Scandinavia," said Claes Sundmark, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at the Port of Gothenburg.

The ships will call twice-weekly at the Port of Gothenburg container terminal, APM Terminals, commencing on June 9.

"Bookings to and from Gothenburg have increased in recent months and to meet the demand on the important swedish market we have added a further call to Gothenburg. The Port of Gothenburg is without doubt the largest Swedish hub for imports and exports," said Dirk Kaestner, Managing Director of Hapag Lloyd Sweden.

Ships leaving Sweden mainly carry forest products, steel and industrial components and imports comprise mainly electronics, clothing and foodstuffs. The vessels can carry 658 and 800 containers respectively (TEU).

Hapag-Lloyd's two rotations comprise Gothenburg-Århus-Bremerhaven-Hamburg-Helsingborg-Gothenburg and Gothenburg-Bremerhaven-Hamburg-Copenhagen-Helsingborg-Gothenburg (new).
