ClassNK publishes fuel regulations at berth in Hong Kong
In accordance with "Air Pollution Control (Ocean Going Vessels) (Fuel at Berth) Regulation" of the Government of Hong Kong, vessels berthing in Hong Kong waters on or after 1 July 2015 shall be required to use fuel oils whose sulphur content does not exceed 0.5% by weight, liquefied natural gas or other fuels approved by the Hong Kong authorities, ClassNK said in its media release.
This regulation applies throughout the entire berthing period of the vessel, excluding the first hour after arrival and the last hour prior to departure. The definition of "arrival" as it pertains to this regulation refers to the moment the vessel is moored or anchored at a berth, while the definition of "departure" refers to the moment the vessel is untied from its berth.
In addition, vessels shall be required to record the dates and times of arrivals, departures, completion of switching to compliant fuels and commencement of switching to non-compliant fuels in a log book which shall be maintained on board the vessel for a period of three years.
