ISG delivers bulk containers to Peru

Intermodal Solutions Group (ISG) has delivered 1,200 specialised bulk containers to MMG to help the mining company move copper from its flagship Las Bambas mine to the Peruvian port of Matarani, the company said in its press release.

ISG says the bulk containers delivered will help MMG solve its logistics problem – the road gross weight limit was exceeded when using 8m long trailers and 12m long wagons loaded 2x20’ containers of copper – in an environmentally-friendly way. The solution was 2 x 4m containers suitable for tippler discharge and sealed lids.

The containers’ lids are taken off the containers at the mine site, using the special build mine site lid lifters supplied by ISG, and are loaded using a front end loader. The lids are replaced by the ISG lid lifters once loaded and the containers are then ready for their road trip to the rail siding.

Once the containers arrive at the rail siding, they are loaded onto the train, which has specialised rail wagons to take the 4m containers to the port for discharge.

Once arrived at the port, a specially-made tippler is used to lift the containers directly from the wagon, and are then transferred to storage shed ready for export on a bulk vessel.

The Port of Matarani is located on the southern coast of the country and plays a key role in connecting Peru and Brazil through the Atlantic-Pacific corridor.
