In January-August 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled3.36 mln t of cargo (+1.3%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority.
In August, the port handled 294,857 t of cargo (-14.8%, year-on-year) including 183,300 t of dry loose cargo. Transshipment of grain totaled 73,700 t, construction materials (cement) - 67,800 t, general cargo - 79,800 t, liquid bulk cargo - 31,700 t.
In August, the port handled 99 ships and serviced 3,870 passengers.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
