Northern Fleet ships engaged imaginary enemy surface ships with cruise missiles in the Barents Sea

On September 17, 2015, the ships of the Northern Fleet performed combat launches of cruise missiles in the Barents Sea within the command-and-staff exercise.

According to the press center of RF Defence Ministry, the combat crew of the Admiral Ushakov destroyer engaged a target installed at the distance of about 100 km with an antiship cruise missile Moskit.

Small-sized missile ship Rassvet fired a Malakhit cruise missile at an aim located some kilometers closer.

The day before, the crews had conducted a trainings and tactical actions on repelling landing groups of simulated enemy. The enemy forces were imitated by the Brest and Snezhnogorsk ASW ships.

After receiving data on target positions from the ASW aircraft Il-38, the ship strike grouping conducted a radio-technical exercise on missile attack on the first landing group.

The second one was detected by a multirole nuclear submarine, which transmitted data concerning it to the strike ship grouping.

Particular attention within the command-and-staff exercise was paid to cooperation of the main ship strike force, aviation and submarine forces.
