CNIIMF says requirements specified for ports’ towage services are out-of-date

Current requirements specified for ports’ towage services are out-of-date, Aleksei Petrov, representative of Central Marine Research and Design Institute (CNIIMF), has said today, September 21, at the International Conference “Advanced port fleet - the basis of safety” organized by media-group PortNews.

According to him, the research carried out by CNIIMF in cooperation with MASCO shows that it is the towing force rather than power is an optimal characteristic for determining the number of tugboats to operate at ports.

“Current requirements are partly outdated. At least an alternative if not a replacement is required,” the expert says.
