Container transit flow by Transsib to/from China up 89% to 66,000 TEUs in 9M’15

In January-October, 2015, transit transportation of containers by Transsib to/from China increased by 89%, year-on-year, to 66,000 TEUs, Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov has said today, November 11, when speaking at the 24th plenary session of the Coordinating Council on
Trans-Siberian Transportation in Vienna (Austria), the Company’s press center says.

According to Oleg Belozerov, in 2014 it totaled 55,000 TEUs (98%, year-on-year).

Tariff regulation measures have been applied to raise the competitiveness of container transportation by Transsib, Oleg Belozerov said.

The President of Russian Railways also said the strategy on making complete container trains and ensuring favorable conditions for their operation resulted in the growth of container transportation by Transsib to 131,000 TEUs in 2014, up 7 times from 2009.

Apart from the previously existing regular container services, new container service was launched (China-Spain).

In September 2015, United Transport and Logistic Company launched container trains from the Chinese port of Yíngkou to Moscow.

Under the Transsib in 7 Days project, Russian Railways has developed a new transportation product known as Baikal Shuttle for transportation of Japanese and Korean cargoes from the port of Yokohama to Moscow.
