On December 10 a new rescue ship “Murman” was commissioned. According to the press center of Murmansk Regional Government, President Vladimir Putin commented on the importance of the ship in his welcoming telegram. “These days 2 ships of high ice class has been put into service – “Murman” in Murmansk and “Bering strait” at Sakhalin. Commissioning of these ultramodern ships will allow Russian rescue service to provide stable navigation in the Arctic and the Far East and ensure development of the Northern Sea Route”. First vice-governor of the Murmansk region Alexey Tyukavin took part in the commissioning ceremony and noted that “today we receive an outstanding unique ship. Mariners crossing through the Northern Sea Route now will feel confident. It is of high importance that the ship is designed for tackling of possible oil spills in the Arctic”.
