Leningrad Region, Russia based Pella Shipyard on December 25, 2015 held a keel laying for two next generation fast attack missile crafts (MRK) of Project 22800, the shipbuilding company told IAA PortNews.
The missile boats will be named “Uragan” (Hurricane) and “Typhoon” and upon completion and sea trials will enter service with the Russian Navy in 2017, 2018.
The 22800-series missile boats designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau have a displacement of 800 tonnes, speed - in excess of 30 knots. The ships will be armed with high-precision missiles and advanced artillery systems and are driven by Russia-made propulsion system.
The warships feature high maneuverability, improved navigability and advanced superstructures / hull architecture and stealth technology employed. The ship is capable of performing tasks up to 3000 nm off its base.
Russian Navy is expected to place orders for ten 22800-design fast attack crafts with several Russian shipyards Project 22800.
JSC Pella Shipyard based in Russia’s Leningrad region was founded in 1950. In 1992 Pella was privatized as Pella Holding Co. comprising the parent company and several subsidiaries. The shipbuilding firm specializes in building harbor tugs with rated power of 1,000-5,000hp, pusher tugs, escort tugs, pilot boats and rescue boats for Russian and foreign customers.
