Russian Navy oceanographic ship Admiral Vladimirsky finished the main phase of the expedition to Antarctica and arrived in Cape Town on March 3, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. The expedition is the first one in the past 30 years.
According to the Chief of the Directorate for navigation and oceanography of the Russian Defence Ministry captain 1st rank Sergei Travin, the oceanographic ship Admiral Vladimirsky has performed depth measurements of 44 370 km, among them in the Antarctic – 17 395 km and near the Antarctic station “Progress” – 5 880 km.
The Admiral Vladimirsky has performed 239 complex hydrographic and 829 hydrometeorological research programmes.
The ship will stay in the port till March 8. After the supplies are replenished, she will continue movement along the route to Kronstadt.
