11th Arctic Passion Seminar held at Aker Arctic on 3 March 2016
The 11th Arctic Passion Seminar was held at Aker Arctic on 3 March 2016. According to the press release of Aker Arctic, nearly a hundred Arctic specialists and other professionals of the shipbuilding, shipping and offshore industries from around the world gathered in Helsinki, Finland, to discuss the latest developments in the Arctic, ongoing and upcoming projects, new ice-going vessel concepts, and technological advancements. The opening speech on the Finnish experience and perspectives for Arctic development was given by the Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland Olli Rehn.
In addition to seminar presentations, the Arctic Passion Seminar has always included an ice model test in Aker Actic's ice laboratory. This year, Aker Arctic demonstrated the operation of a dynamically positioned icebreaking offshore vessel in floe ice using a real DP system adapted to model scale. The test was part of an ongoing R&D project between Aker Arctic and Navis Engineering.
