Japan to look into crab imports via Northern Sea Route
Japan is interested in considering the development of crab and other seafood imports via the Northern Sea Route, press center of Murmansk Region Government refers to Otsuka Natsuhiko, an expert on port management and planning at North Japan Port Consultants Ltd. and head of the Japanese delegation, as saying during his meeting with Aleksei Tyukavin, First Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region.
Information provided to the delegation during the meeting will be forwarded to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan for further distribution among the Japanese companies considered as potential business partners.
The meeting focused mainly on current use of the Northern Sea Route and prospects to build up cargo transportation by NSR lanes.
In this context Aleksei Tyukavin told about the plans to launch a container line between Murmansk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The project is to partially unload the Transsib railway. The test run is scheduled for autumn 2016.
Aleksei Tyukavin also told the Japanese delegation about the Project on Comprehensive Development of Murmansk Transport Hub and invited his Japanese partners to take part in the conference dedicated to fishing in the Arctic, international forum on shipbuilding and the events of Murmansk International Business Week .
