Novorossiysk Grain Terminal (NGT JSC) plans to handle 4 mln t of grain in 2016, which is similar to the result of the previous year, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Anatoly Arabadzhiyev, Chief Engineer of NGT, as saying at XII International Transport Forum “Yug-Trans-2016” held on March 18 in Gelendzhik.
According to him, the terminal is capable of handling larger volumes but the final result will depend on the volumes supplied.
Anatoly Arabadzhiyev says the bulk of grain is exported to Turkey, South-East Asia, Egypt and other African countries. Shipments to China are a new trend though their share is low so far – some 200,000-300,000 t per year.
NGT construction was commenced in 2004 and completed in 2008. The terminal boast high-speed and high-performance equipment as well as the state-of-the-art industrial process control system being used for the first time in Russia.
85% of Russian grain is exported via the Black Sea and Azov Sea basins. Port Novorossiysk accounts for over a half of grain exports from Russia. There are three large grain terminals in Novorossiysk, each can handle 4-5 mln t of grain per year. NGT is capable of loading over 1,500 t of grain per hour.
