Official ceremony for opening of transit navigation in the Azov-Don River Basin was held on April 1, 2016 at the Kochetkovsky hydraulic facility, IAA PortNews correpondent says.
The first vessel to pass the Kochetkovsky hydrosystem was the Mekhanik Antonov tanker owned by V.F. Tanker LLC.
Sergei Gaidayev, head of Azov-Don Basin Administration, said cargo traffic within the Basin totaled 8,750,000 t in 2015. “This year we are going to carry at least 10 mln t”, he added.
According to him, 16 vessels are sailing today from the Don towards the Volga and 2 vessels – from the Volga towards Rostov-on-Don with one vessel being loaded at the Bagayevskaya station.
