In January-March 2016, the port of Ventspils handled over 6.1 mln t of cargo (+19%, year-on-year), the port authority says. Transshipment via Ventspils Nafta termināls fell by 20% to 701,000 t, via Baltic Coal Terminal down 45% to 469,000 t, via Ventspils tirdzniecības osta – down 25%, via Ventamonjaks – down 50% to 26,000 t, via Ventall Termināls – down 49%.
At the same time, transshipment via Ventbunkers climbed by 35% to 778,000 t, via Ventspils Grain Terminal – 115,000 t of grain, via Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals – up 1%.
The Freeport of Ventspils Authority is set to invest 8 mln euros into the development of port infrastructure this year. Part of investment programmes will be financed by the Cohesion Fund of the EU.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2014, the port handled 26.02 mln t of cargo (-9%, year-on-year).
