The nuclear-powered LASH carrier / container carrier Sevmorput completed her voyage from Murmansk to the Temp Bay at the Kotelniy Island (News Siberian Islands archipelago) on May 18, 2016 at 05:00 (Moscow time), says Rosatomflot.

The world’s only cargo vessel with a nuclear power plant was assisted by the nuclear-powered icebreaker Yamal.

Vladimir Arutyunyan, Head of Fleet Operations Department – Head of Marine Operations Headquarters, FSUE Atomflot, said: “Today, at 08:00, the crew of the LASH carrier started unloading of cargo onto the shore ice. The passage from Murmansk was normal. The most challenging ice conditions were faced in the water area of the Laptev Sea where the convoy proceeded in the conditions of high ice pressure”.

The Sevmorput delivered 5,806 t of cargo: construction materials and food products. The ship owner is Zapsibgazprom-Gazifikatsiya LLC. Agency services are provided by Sovfracht PJSC.

When unloaded the vessel will set sail for her homeport Murmansk.

The nuclear-powered icebreaking combo LASH carrier / container ship Sevmorput (named after the Northern Sea Route) was built at Kerch, USSR based Zaliv Shipyard. The Sevmorput was laid down on November 2, 1984, launched on February 20, 1986 and put into operation on December 31, 1988.

In December 2015, the Sevmorput successfully passed her sea trials. The vessel will perform commercial tasks, including the so-cold Northern deliveries of basic commodities to remote regions of the country's North, participation in the development of the shelf and Pavlovsky lead / zinc ores deposits based on the Novya Zemlya, supplying of the Arctic regions.
