Construction of Kerch Strait bridge has entered the new phase – assembling and installation of the first span onto the support structures of the motor road section. The Crimean Bridge information center  says the road section will totally consist of 287 span structures, the railway section – of 306 spn structures.

According to Luarsab Tsybulkin, head of Uprdor “Taman” (federal government institution that ordered the construction), each bridge construction crew is to perform certain work at the assigned section. Having completed the construction of support structures the crew immediately begins the installation of spans.

“This layout ensures fast and smooth construction: the bridge is being built not from shore to shore but it is growing up from the ground or water,” he explained.

The installation of spans has commenced at the land section in the area of the Tuzla lake and the Tuzla split. In the nearest future it will begin at the Tuzla island.

“Each structure is about 160 tonnes, - says Oleg Romensky, Chief Engineer of the bridge construction crew assembling the first span. – When the structure is assembled on the temporary support structures it will be placed onto the permanent bridge support.”

Supplies of metal structures for the bridge spans began in May.

Aleksei Sorochinsky, head of the construction sites at the Tuzla split, says over 12,000 t of metal structures intended for the bridge spans will be delivered to the construction site throughout the summer. All in all, span structures for the Crimean bridge are made of some 250,000 t of metal.
