Nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika will assist shipping of Yamal LNG in 2018, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Sergey Kiriyenko, Director General of Rosatom Corporation, as saying at the icebreaker launching ceremony.
“There is a contract with Yamal LNG for 18 mln t and the volumes will grow further”, explained Sergey Kiriyenko.
He also said this kind of fleet allows for meeting unique challenges.
Today, Baltiysky Zavod shipyard (Saint-Petersburg) has launched the Arktika, lead nuclear-powered icebreaker of Project 22220 built to the order of Rosatom Corporation.
The first serial icebreaker of Project 22220, the Sibir, was launched in May 2015. The date of keel-laying ceremony for the Ural is under discussion.
