Wilh. Wilhelmsen recently held a naming ceremony for MV Theben. The vessel is the third in line of high-efficiency RoRo (HERO) vessels being introduced by the company.
The ceremony took place in Zeebrugge, Belgium, on June 6 and gathered more than 60 special guests from around the world, including the mayor of Bruges and governor of West Flanders. Ole Kristian Bærvahr, Vice President Shipping at Wilh.Wilhelmsen ASA, was master of ceremonies and Satoko Uchida, wife of Takaya Uchida, Chief Operating Officer of Meiji Shipping Ltd, was the lady sponsor.
MV Theben, whose name relates to Greek history, is the sister vessel of MV Thermopylae and MV Thalatta, which were introduced to WWL’s fleet earlier this year. All new HERO vessels so far have been built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and are given names that start with the letter “T”, continuing the old tradition of naming red vessels with the letter “T”.
