Phase 1 of the access channel and water area of MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka, Big Port St. Petersburg) has been put into operation under the permit issued by Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (78-RU78507311-ВВ-39/20-2016, as of 27.06.2016), says FSUE Rosmorport.
The construction of the access channel and the water area ordered by FSUE Rosmorport lasted from April 2013 till December 2015 within the framework of “Marine Transport” subprogramme of the Federal Targeted Programme “Development of Russia’s Transport System in 2010-2020”. The purpose of the construction was to ensure safe maneuvering and approaching to Bronka berths for design ships of 22,000 DWT, with a length of up to 190 m, breadth of up to 30 m and loaded draft of up to 8.5 m.
MSCC Bronka now has a 150-meter wide access channel of over 6.4 km in length and bed level of 11.2 m; operational water area is 380 m wide, diameter of the turning basin is 420 m, bed level – 11.2 m; front and rear leading beacons have been placed at Bronka-2 and Bronka-3 navigation range.
The amount of the material dredged at the construction site reached almost 20.2 mln cbm including over 12.9 mln cbm at the access channel and 7.3 mln cbm at the water area.
Expenses for Phase 1 construction works exceeded RUB 10.9 bln. The works were financed by the federal budget.
Phase 2 which is under implementation provides for dredging at the access channel to the design mark of 14.4 m, the channel will be widened to 185 m. Phase 2 is to be completed by the end of 2016.
The capacity of Bronka’s Phase 1 is 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. In the future the MSCC Bronka expansion will help increase the facility's container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs. Upon completion of the port's construction and dredging MSCC Bronka will be able to accommodate Post-Panamax containerships and the ferries of Finnstar class. The Bronka Complex will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal encompassing 107 hectares, the Ro-Ro terminal of 57 ha and a logistics center of 42 ha. Container terminal will have a 1,220 m-long quay wall (including 5 berths). The length of Ro-Ro terminal's dock line will be 710 meters (3 berths). Implementation of the Bronka project is expected to generate 2,300 jobs in the region.
