Port Pevek can double its annual throughput to 500,000 t by 2026, Chukotka Governor

Throughput of the Freeport of Pevek can double by 2026 to 500,000 t per year, regional press center cites Chukotka Governor Roman Kopin as saying at the meeting attended by Yury Trutnev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District.

According to the Governor, The port of Pevek is strategically important for Chukotka and the Northern Sea Route with its deepwater berths, highly mechanized equipment and location in the gold-mining area of Chukotka. Inclusion of the port into the free port programme will give a new impetus to its development as well as to the development of the entire region.

“From 2001, annual throughput of Pevek seaport has surged by almost 220% and currently makes и about 270,000 t. In the coming 10 years we forecast the increase to 500,000 t per year in view of the Peschanka field development,” Roman Kopin said.

Pevek municipality and water area were included into the limits of the Free Port of Vladivostok under the Federal Law dated July 3, 2016 (No 252-FL) “On introduction of amendments into the Federal Law "On the Territories of Priority Development Areas of Social and Economic Development in the Russian Federation” and the Federal Law "On the Free Port of Vladivostok".
