Dockers and employees of PJSC Commercial Port of Vladivostok staged a protest gathering Tuesday (August 9) against job slashing at CPV Container Terminal and to protect their rights.
The meeting was attended by 300 people. The resolution (available at IAA PortNews) said that mass layoffs of dockers conducted by PJSC CPV management at CPV Container Terminal “are recognized as unfounded and related to their membership in Dockers Union of Russia (DUR)”.
Also, protesters decided to support the DUR proposal to find other measures to improve the company's financial situation, to recognize the actions of the PJSC CPV violated the rights of workers, of DUR, as well as the principles of social partnership, to support the actions of the CPV union to appeal to the local government, regulatory and supervisory authorities, public organizations and the media, to address the problem of the employer's failure to comply with labor law and the principles of social partnership. They decided to submit the resolution to the media, to public authorities, to DUR Chairman, to CPV General Director.
The meeting was attended by officials of the Primorsky Territory Administration, who confirmed that the situation at the port had been under control of the Primorsky Krai Gov Vladimir Miklushevsky.
DUR members oppose to dismissal of dock engineers of CPV's Container Terminal, as well as against the current strained relation between workers, their trade union and the employers.
Workers began to receive first layoff notices on July 8 2016. "We have submitted our proposals to the employer to preserve jobs but they declined to have a constructive dialogue, and the union's proposals are not considered. The employer violates the basic principles of social partnership, established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. Therefore, the current situation forced dockers to stage a protest gathering," the union said in the statement.
Previously, Primorsky Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky vowed he would step in to settle the dispute and take personal control of the situation caused by layoffs at CPV.
