Cargo handling at the Port of Ust-Luga in January-July 2016 rose 6% year-on-year to 52,952,400 tonnes, the Baltic Sea Ports Authority.
In the reporting period bulk cargo volume rose 7% to 15,074,400 tonnes, while coal and coke exports fell 2% to 11,807,400 tonnes.
The seven-month volume liquid bulk cargo increased by 7% to 36,036,300 tonnes, including 17,022,800 tonnes of crude oil (+11%) and 18,062,400 tonnes of oil products (+3%).
The port terminal operators moved 399,000 tonnes of general cargo, 9% below the 7 month 2015 figure.
Handling of ferry loads reached 833,800 tonnes, a 29-percent slump from a year earlier.
Container traffic also declined by 6.9% to 45,079 TEUs.
A year ago, freight throughput at the port totaled 87.86 million tonnes and container volumes – 89,820 TEUs.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. The 17,5-meter deep harbor and a short 3.7-km long access channel make Ust-Luga the only Russian port in the Baltic Sea capable of of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 160,000dwt tankers.
