Damen Experience takes place at Damen Shipyards Sharjah

The Damen Experience that took place at Damen Shipyards Sharjah, UAE, on Thursday, 3 November has been a big success, the company said in its press release. Following on from the Seatrade Maritime Middle East exhibition that was held over the previous three days in Dubai, delegates from that event and other industry professionals had the opportunity to visit Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) for the ‘Damen Experience’. This included seminars on the latest developments and on-the-water demonstrations of a selection of Damen vessels.

The morning began with a lively seminar on recent deliveries, ongoing projects and future prospects. Thereafter there was a presentation on Harbour and Terminal vessels; which looked at the latest developments in design and technology, including hybrid and LNG propulsion options, and another on High Speed Craft; where the advantages of composite construction, Twin Axe bow designs and advances in crew transfer solutions were among the subjects discussed.

A number of stock vessels were also available for on-the-water demonstrations. The popular ASD 2411 and ASD 2810 tugs showed off their manoeuvrability and pulling power and a Twin Axe FCS 2610 dedicated for fast crew transfer in the oil field was also put through its paces. For those seeking more excitement, a Damen Interceptor 1102 capable of more than 55 knots took out guests for some high-speed action. Guest were also able to tour the busy yard and view the facilities and the vessels being built and under repair.

Pascal Slingerland, Sales Manager Middle East at Damen Shipyards Group, commented, “We are really pleased with the number of visitors we received and we were delighted to be able to show them both the capabilities of the yard and a selection of the actual vessels and offshore structures that it constructs and repairs for customers from across the region.”

Due to the positive feedback received during this sailing experience, we have decided to showcase the FCS 2610 again during the ADIPEC on Tuesday. Damen welcomes their guests to step on board the FCS 2610 at the Emirates Palace Marine, 8th of November 2016, at 2 PM (RSVP via middleeast@damen.com).
