Development of Bronka’s railway infrastructure is among priorities of Saint-Petersburg transport and logistics

Development of railway infrastructure at the approaches to and within Bronka seaport is among the priorities of Saint-Petersburg transport and logistics infrastructure, Mikhail Gromov, first deputy to the Director General of the Directorate for the Development of Transport System in Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, told IAA PortNews at the 3rd Annual Conference “Transport Infrastructure of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region”.

As of today, 50% of containers are delivered to MSCC Bronka by railway.

Consistent demand for rail transport services in Bronka determines the necessity to further develop railway approaches to MSCC Bronka and create a “Southern Park” for loading/unloading of containers carried by railways. Implementation of the “Southern Park” project will let Bronka expand its facilities with 7 new railway lines (1,050 meters each); yards for handling and storing of containers and metal cargo, a logistics area with two A-class storage facilities covering more than 20,000 sqm.

General designer has been selected to design the port and railway infrastructure. Designing has been started already.

According to specifications for the development of railway infrastructure at the approaches to and at Bronka seaport issued by and Russian Railways on 21 January 2016, Phase I of infrastructure development project (3.8 mln t) is to be fulfilled by 2020; Phase II (5 mln t) – by 2022; Phase III (8 mln t) – by 2025.

The capacity of Bronka’s Phase 1 is 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. In the future the MSCC Bronka expansion will help increase the facility's container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs. Upon completion of the port's construction and dredging MSCC Bronka will be able to accommodate Post-Panamax containerships and the ferries of Finnstar class. The Bronka Complex will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal encompassing 107 hectares, the Ro-Ro terminal of 57 ha and a logistics center of 42 ha.  Container terminal will have a 1,220 m-long quay wall (including 5 berths). The length of Ro-Ro terminal's dock line will be 710 meters (3 berths).
