The Incheon Port Authority announced on January 12 that the work of opening the 1.6km long berth to Incheon New Port is accelerating with the installation of yard crane and quay crane.
According to the IPA, Sunkwang Newport Container Terminal(SNCT) is installing 8-ARMGC(Automated Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes) which are able to do 6th grade bond and 9-line unloading work. SNCT installed 4 cranes last week and the other 4 cranes will be carried additionally at the end of this month. As a result of this, SNCT will secure 22-ARMGC in total and it can improve port’s productivity.
The other terminal operating company(TOC) at Incheon New Port, HanJin Incheon Container Terminal(HJIT), will also install 2-RMQC(Rail Mounted Quayside Cranes) that can unload 22-line containers until next month. By installing 1 RMQC until the end of this month and 1 RMQC in February, HJIT expects to boost the efficiency of cargo handling service dramatically. Totally, HJIT will secure 7-RMQC.
SNCT and HJIT, TOC of Incheon New Port, are operating 410m and 420m of 800m which are 1st phase of Incheon New Port construction from June 2015 and March 2016 respectively. In particular, SNCT completed 2nd phase construction on December 31 last year. With this, SNCT has a plan to use entire 800 meters long by introducing and installing additional crane facilities. Also, HJIT plans to open entire part through finishing facility installation at 2nd phase until November this year.
Once two terminals at Incheon New Port are opened later this year, handling capability of Incheon New Port will be 2.1M TEU(Each Terminal will have 1.05M TEU’s handling capability). Moreover, Incheon New Port is expected to give a boost to Incheon Port’s cargo volumes as it will facilitate a route service and the come-and-go of large vessels.
