Port of Zeebrugge and Port of Hirtshals sign Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Copenhagen by the port authorities of the Port of Hirtshals and the Port of Zeebrugge. The object of this MOU is to enhance the relationship between the two ports as well as to develop new business opportunities, the company said in its press release.

Since 2016, the ports of Hirtshals and Zeebrugge are connected by a direct cargo service operated by CLdN. One year later, the service has proven its business potential on both sides. The direct connection to the port of Hirtshals was an important addition to the Zeebrugge shortsea offer. It has strengthened Zeebrugge’s role as a Scandinaviahub, with in total 16 services to Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and connected Zeebrugge to other destinations in Scandinavia. The business community on the Danish mainland and in Norway was provided with efficient and compatible transport solutions to Central Europe. Also, Zeebrugge’s high frequency of sailings on UK-destinations allowed for a cost-efficient transport solution for loads between Hirtshals and the UK.

The objective of the Memorandum of Understanding is the formalisation of the cooperation between both ports in the areas of route development and the raise of market awareness of the hub function of both ports.
