Port of Southampton welcomes thousands of visitors to Ocean Business

AS OCEAN Business celebrates 10 years of growth, the Port of Southampton has confirmed its continuing support for the massively successful event.

ABP says up to 5,000 visitors from more than 65 countries are expected to attend the event which takes place at the National Oceanography Centre and on water in the Empress Dock within the port. This year’s showcase has attracted 363 exhibitors from around the world, giving it a truly international flavour.

Organisers agree the major attraction of the exhibition is the ability to put vessels on the water and give live feedback.

“More companies are opting for dockside and test tank demo sessions to showcase a range of autonomous and robotic technologies.

“Being able to use Empress Dock is a real bonus for us and has helped the event to grow over the years,” said Ocean Business group director, Versha Carter.

Running alongside the exhibition is a conference focusing on maritime dual-use opportunities in autonomous systems and satellite applications and Ocean Careers, providing career and recruitment advice.

The port’s hydrographer Becky Conway was among the leaders in the maritime industry taking part in the Ocean Careers event.

ABP Southampton director, Alastair Welch, said: “We are delighted to support Ocean Business as it continues to grow and attract more exhibitors from around the world.

“It is important for Southampton as a city and the port to be associated with successful events such as this which underline our importance as a major maritime hub.”
