Navis, part of Cargotec's business area Kalmar, has provided the port operator Steveco with N4 terminal operating system (TOS) from a cloud environment. The TOS is being implemented to two Finland-based container terminals, Vuosaari, Helsinki, and Mussalo, Kotka. This makes Steveco one of the world's first terminal operators to operate a TOS from a cloud, the company said in its press release.
Steveco selected Navis N4 to its terminals after a thorough evaluation process. One of the main requirements was the ability to run the TOS from cloud.
The order was signed in April 2016, and the system went live in March this year. The cloud environment is provided by Finnish Tieto Corporation.
A cloud service offers significant benefits for hosting a terminal operating system like N4, including on-demand availability, rapid scalability of the IT infrastructure, pooling of resources, as well as flexibility and cost efficiencies.
The combined annual handling capacity at Steveco's Vuosaari and Mussalo terminals is about 1,150,000 TEUs of containers.
