CNCo warns seafarers of employment scam

The China Navigation Company Pte Ltd (CNCo) has been alerted to a scam involving fraudulent employment contracts for ship crew purportedly offered by “Swire Shipping Limited” (SSL) and allegedly signed by its Chairman, Managing Director, James Woodrow. An official report has been lodged with the relevant fraud authorities in relation to this scam, CNCo said in a media release.

"The current scam purportedly offers interested job applicants various ship crew positions with SSL through the following individuals, namely “Johan G. Hvide” and “Lars Helge Kyrkjebø”. The job applicants were then asked to submit their resume personal data. In some instances, applicants were asked to post fees as part of the application process. (Please refer to Appendix A for an extract of the fraudulent employment contract. Please note that Mr James Woodrow is the Managing Director of CNCo and not SSL. The purported named “Johan G. Hvide” and “Lars Helge Kyrkjebø” are not associated with CNCo in any way. CNCo does not have any employees or representatives named “Johan G. Hvide” and “Lars Helge Kyrkjebø”, the Company said.
