On 10 September 2017, Icebreaker Novorossiysk left the port of Murmansk to support yet another expedition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, says press center of FSUE Rosmorport.
The Novorossiysk will provide assistance in scientific research of physical impact on icebergs in the water area of the Barents, Kara and Laptev Sea as part of the scientific programme.
First experiments on towing icebergs were carried by the Kapitan Dranitsin icebreaker in September-October 2016.
According to the statement, “this journey of the Novorossiysk icebreaker is a continuation of a scientific research programme focused on ensuring safe navigation of sea ships and drilling rigs when working in the water area of Northern seas.
The icebreaker will return to the port of Murmansk in late October 2017.
