On 25 September 2017, the Chernyakhovsk station of the Kaliningrad Railway accepted the first integrated container train transiting the Kaliningrad Region on its way from Europe to China, says press center of the Kaliningrad Railway. 41 large capacity containers were reloaded from the standard gauge platforms (1,435 mm) to Russian gage platforms (1,520 mm) for further dispatching to Chengdu, China.
The project being implemented by the Kaliningrad Railway and the United Transport and Logistics Company provides an additional corridor to the basic route of UTLC Dostyk/Altynkol – Brest – Dostyk/Altynkol.
According to Aleksey Grom, President of UTLC JSC, says the Company is going to build up the cargo flow on Europe-China-Europe route via the Kaliningrad Region. At first, the terminals of the Kaliningrad Railway are expected to handle up to 365 container trains per year with further increase in the future.
