Northern Fleet warship detachment returns to base having performed tasks in the Arctic

Regiment of support ships and crafts of the Northern Fleet, performing tasks in the Arctic Ocean headed by the Severomorsk ASW, is finishing its distant cruise and returning to the main base of the Fleet – Severomorsk, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. A solemn welcome ceremony will be held on October 4 in the ASW deployment area.

Carrying the flag of Commander of the Kola Flotilla combined forces Vice Admiral Oleg Golubev, the regiment covered over 6,000 nautical miles to reach the New Siberian Islands in the Laptev Sea, passing the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea, and the Yenisei River to the Dudinka port.

In that area servicemen of an arctic motorized rifle unit with Airborne and special units held combined-arms tactical exercise on security and defence of an important industry object in the Arctic.

During the march, servicemen performed four amphibious operations on an unprepared coast. Tree major amphibious ships Georgy Pobedonosets, Alexander Otrakovsky and Kondopoga were involved in landing on the Yenisei River coast in the Dudinka area. For the first time a landing of hardware on the Chelyuskin Cape – the northernmost point of the Eurasian continent – was conducted.
